Help Sumatra Flood Survivors Rebuild Their Lives
Campaign Story
From late November through December 2025, severe flooding and significant landslides have resulted in widespread devastation across three provinces in Sumatra, Indonesia. Entire villages have been dismantled, thousands of homes have been lost, and families have been compelled to evacuate with only the clothing on their backs.
According to Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), over 1,000 lives have tragically been lost, hundreds of individuals are still unaccounted for, and over one million survivors are now residing in cramped evacuation shelters, facing critical shortages of food, clean water, and medical assistance. Numerous remote communities remain entirely isolated, as landslides have obstructed roads and hindered the delivery of aid.
Children are suffering from hunger, and elderly individuals are at heightened risk of severe malnutrition. Families are resorting to drinking rainwater and subsisting on uncooked instant noodles due to the scarcity of clean water and cooking fuel.

Rationale for Urgent Action
This crisis demands immediate attention. Numerous individuals remain stranded in remote villages where aid has not been delivered swiftly. Each passing day without access to food, clean water, and medical assistance endangers lives. Prompt intervention is essential to avert further loss of life and to support communities in embarking on the arduous journey towards recovery.

Thousands of houses were swept away by flash floods in Tamiang, Aceh, Indonesia

This is the most devastating flood in Aceh, accompanied by logs

Children go to school passing over the damaged bridge due to flash floods
When a devastating flood occurred, elderly people were seen climbing onto the roofs of houses accompanied by two goats
